CPJ cites fact-finding report
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), an independent international group formed to defend the rights of journalists worldwide, described the results of the recent Maguindanao fact-finding mission as the “most authoritative account” of the massacre that killed 57 people, including 30 journalists, in the Southern Philippines last September 23.
In the CPJ blogsite, Asia Program Coordinator Bob Dietz cited the work of the nine-member team from the Freedom Fund for Filipino Journalists (FFFJ). The FFFJ team was composed of representatives from the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ), the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR), the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP), and MindaNews.
The post also noted that after checking their records, the killings in Maguindanao are “most likely the worst in the history of journalism.”
