READING from a prompter, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo at 7 pm Monday made the following statement about the wiretapping controversy.

Mga minamahal kong kababayan.

For the last several weeks, the issue of the tape recordings has spun out of control. Tonight, I want to set the record straight. You deserve an explanation from me, because you are the people I was elected to serve.

As you recall, the election canvassing process was unnecessarily slow even after the election results were already in and the votes had been counted.

I was anxious to protect my votes and during that time had conversations with many people, including a Comelec official. My intent was not to influence the outcome of the election, and it did not. As I mentioned, the election has already been decided and the votes counted. And as you remember, the outcome had been predicted by every major public opinion poll, and adjudged free, fair and decisive by international election observers, and our own Namfrel.

That said, let me tell you how I personally feel. I recognize that making any such call was a lapse in judgment. I am sorry. I also regret taking so long to speak before you on this matter. I take full responsibility for my actions and to you and to all those good citizens who may have had their faith shaken by these events. I want to assure you that I have redoubled my efforts to serve the nation and earn your trust.

I took office with a mandate to carry out a plan for the nation. Since that time, I have focused on making the tough but necessary decisions to make up for years of economic neglect. We passed a comprehensive, fiscally responsible national budget; raised new and necessary revenues to invest in the people; and implemented new anti-corruption measures that have led to the highest collection of taxes in history.

Nothing should stand in the way of this work, or the next phase of my reform agenda, which includes new investments in education and social services with our new revenues; and an expansion of our successful, anti-corruption and lifestyle checks.

That is why I want to close this chapter and move on with the business of governing. I ask each and everyone of you to join hands with me in a show of unity, to help forge one Philippines, where everyone is equal under the law, and everybody has the opportunity to use their God-given talents to make a better life.

Our nation is strong and getting stronger. The progress is steady and I ask you to walk with me on this journey to rebuild our great nation. I remain your humble servant and promise you that I will fulfill my constitutional oath of office to serve the people to the best of my ability.

God bless the Philippines.

President Gloria Macapaga-Arroyo issues an apology, and admitting that the voice in the Wiretapgate audio was indeed hers.  She does not admit to rigging the vote, but she says:
I was anxious to protect…

I was moved by the President’s humility to admit that the voice was hers and making a public apology. Nevertheless, she is still accounted to the mistakes at kailngan nyang panagutan yun. But I just wondering if PGMA would step down, what change will it brought to the scarcity our economic is suffering now? Who would replace her position? Or should I say, who would “wanna” replace her position — Im sure marami jan, another handful of currupt officials na naman!!!

I don’t see any humility in Gloria’s admission because she stonewalled for three weeks before she admits that she did something wrong.

Kung patawad lang ang kailangan niya walang problema, I’m sure Filipinos will see it in their hearts to forgive her. But having said that she must not forget that she is not yet off the hook. A simple snatcher or robber cannot just say sorry and be allowed to go. It’s not that simple.

For me, the first step for her to show that she was indeed sincere in her asking for forgiveness is to let go of her ambition to continue her presidency. To show delicadeza and patriotism. That is what the situation require of her. She has no choice.

I am deaf, dumb and blind to see why some people can be moved by G.Arroyo’s HUMILITY to ask for an apology. These people might have escaped victimization, but as I said so many deaf, dumb, dumber may not even asked what humility?
Is this a new word in the dicrtionary of depravity and corruption? We are still a country of (adjectives deleted).

What we are facing right now are the issues regarding immorality, unethical behavior among others of a public official. Let us not confuse or scare ourselves by mixing different and unrelated issues with the current events. Kung maka-Gloria ka, well that’s your call.

Same thing during the time of Erap. Clear?

GMA’s admission of impropriety last night is akin to a criminal suspect who pleads for a lesser offense. In simple words, meron talagang pagkakasala.

If the team of Ermita, Remonde and Claudio thought that the easy way out for GMA to get out of this political imbroglio is to do ala-Clinton kind of “lapse of judgment”, Sorry po mga bossing. I won’t buy that. Bumenta na yan.

Clearly, Gloria is not Bill; neither the acts precedent of the former is similar to the latter.

This bring us back to the lis mota of the Gloria gate and every Filipino should not miss the point, as what Condrado de Quiros unmistakably wrote today in PDI,“ the point is that GMA rigged the elections and therefore whether she actually won or not, she has invalidated her votes.

Whether GMA’s lapse of judgment is a defense of good faith, she admittedly violated a law and isn’t transgressions of the Election Law- mala prohibita?

GMA has still a viable option left and that is to resign—-now.

sama ako sa inyo sa signature campaign to move GMA out of malacanang by appending my username(s) here. mga kabayan, join na kayo, very clearly, pandak was not sincere in her apology over national tv. SHE WAS NOT AND NEVER WILL BE SINCERE dahil hindi lang isang beses niyang ipinakita ang insincerity, insensitiveness sa buong bansa. matagal na tayong ginagago nyang pandak na yan, and it should stop now once and for all, dahil paulit-ulit na gagaguhin tayo kung hahayaan pa nating magtagal pa siya sa malacanang. pa-awa effect pa siya sa telebisyon. huwag tayong padadala sa kanya. the only good thing about that part admission ng kung anong tinutukoy niya (dahil marami yon) she opened up herself to more questions. hindi natatapos yon sa paghingi niya ng tawad na peke. she was only pushed in the corner kaya niya ginawa yon. sa klase ng pagkatao niya, there is no sincere bones in her body, in her whole being. SHE DOESN’T HAVE A HEART AT ALL. hindi mahirap sa isang tao, mapa-mahirap o mayaman, matalino o bobo–na umanin sa isang kasalanan kung TALAGANG SINCERE AT MAY TAKOT SA DIYOS. GMA should now think twice or more than twice when she said last night that she will fulfill his constitutional oath of office to serve the people to the best of her ability, on the following grounds :

1. Didn’t she violate her first constitutional oath of office by DELIBERATELY NOT EXECUTING all laws? Madame,Don’t tell me that Election Law is not a Law, please lang po.

2. Didn’t she violate her second constitutional oath office by CIRCUMVENTING the law? madame, Don’t tell me that you are not aware what the NTC,NBI and DOJ are doing?

And lastly, dapat GMA should have not read her speech by the use of teleprompter, it only shows that she is READING and NOT SAYING it through her heart.

GMA, sana mabasa mo ito. I want you to know that I respect you like any other child of God. Tama lang yon inspite of how you have been handling yourself as President.

But you know, Madame President, to be respected is just one facet of leadership. The other more important facet, among others, is the two other sides of human respect and those are : (1) self-respect and (2) your respect of others. Ang malungkot, Madame President, you failed in the last two forms of respect which are more important for a leader than being respected kasi respect should be earned, not demanded or legislated.

Where is self-respect when a President like you succumbs to a gross violation of public trust then engage in half-apology (umamin ka nga na ang boses ay sa iyo pero you were silent on the gravity of talking to a Comelec Commissioner and where is mutual respect when you want to be respected as a leader and yet don’t seem to care for your neighbor’s basic rights (you suppress people’s right to peaceful assembly and freedom of speech and likewise suppress their right to find out the truth about a doubtful electoral exercise).

The only honorable thing for you to do now really is: STEP OUT OF THE PALACE. THAT IS RESERVED FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE AS RESPECTABLE AS THEY ARE RESPECTFUL.

SAYANG KA MADAME PRESIDENT. TINIMBANG KA NGUNIT OVERWEIGHT KA. MASYADO KANG BUMILIB SA SARILI MO. AKALA MO INVINCIBLE KA!!! HINDI SMALL BUT TERRIBLE KATULAD NG SINANSABI NG MGA ALIPORES MO. BAGKUS, IKAW AY TERRIBLE YET SMALL.

they said that GMA’s apology is good enough if only to save the government and our economy from falling down.

in the question of letting a “crime” just go unpunished they countered ‘who would replace the president? Noli? Erap? Jinggoy?’

on the question of snap elections. “can we afford it? we cant afford it! our country is very poor we cannot afford it! besides there are no candidates available to replace the president.”

on the question of GMA’s cheating in the elections. “both parties cheated! even FPJ cheated in the elections also how can we be sure that the next election will not be rigged?”

honestly i dont know how to answer them.

i can only surmise a history being read by our children learning on how criminals being in the form of a president get away or else tolerated because of baseless fears. i hope they never scorn our generation for having been less intrepid in the face of a great challenge, that being the opportunity to change a government and to let a criminal be put to justice, us being the victim.

people say that i am too idealistic that im missing what reality really is. how reality is supposed to work here and now.

its true i am too idealistic, but i believe when filipinos loose their idealism and stop themselves in striving to create a better future on their own then they’d be more than criminals they’d be worse than animals and they truly deserve their condition.

i remember when my mentor told me these hurtful words.

“our generation failed your generation”

i was in High School then but i saw in his eyes the disgust, the pain & the shame of how the stigma would haunt him for the rest of his life.

of how bright minds would rather sit back and live their own lives than make their country’s life better.

as it is… the truth came out…. by her own mouth…

now they are trying to pull wool over our eyes….

The office of the President of the Philippines is considered as the highest office of the land not only because it oversees everything in this so called archipelago of ours, it is considered as such because it carries the aspirations, the ideals, the embodiment of the Filipinos… as such it bears to one that holds the said office to bear the burden of representing all that the Filipinos stands for….

what we have right now is a farce, a misrepresentation of the ideals that we hold dear.

we have someone impersonating the President of the Philippines in the office right now.

and this same person is brazenly saying that she still has a mandate while apologizing to all the Filipinos that were disenfranchized thru her dagdag-bawas machinations during the last elections….

where is your amor-propio ms.evil midget?

if you call that an apology…… you are a bigger fool than i thought… all the things that you said in your speech… are full of lies, half-truths and deceit….

what mandate are you talking about? how can you have a mandate when it is clear as crystal that you stole the elections?…

and since you dont have any mandate at all, do you think we can really just close this chapter and let you govern over us? are we really that stupid?

you doubling your efforts to serve us? oh, cam-ong!
how? by doubling your family’s jueteng collection? or doubly bankrupting the nation’s coffers like you did the pcso’s and the dpwh? even after raising taxes and collecting a lot of money…

dear midget, to let you stay in that office where we have put all our hopes and dreams will be the greatest crime of the century…

yep, we will join hands to show unity and to forge one Philippines determined to kick you out of that office you don’t deserve…[where everyone is equal under the law and not harrased by you and your cabal esp. justicesec gonzales]

our nation’s anger is strong and getting stronger. The progress to unite to fight for your ouster is steady.

we ask that you walk away from our nation [and never come back at that] in the hope that we can rebuild our great nation from your corruption and ineptitude.

the only thing left for you to do dear is to go out of the presidents office and dont worry about the constitution… it will guide us well and let us put in place a true leader that will help us…

nobody believes you now midget… only stupid people will believe someone who is a liar, a cheat and a thief….

one thing is clear at this point…. YOU SHOULDN”T BE IN THAT OFFICE….

RESIGN!!! BEFORE YOU GET OUSTED!!!

But in the case of the bogus president, that’s not far fetched, yun nga lang because of her distinctive voice pitch, baka mabosesan at mabuking sya uli ng madlang Filipino :)

Subsequently, she will say sorry na naman for her lapse of judgment and this time naka full Darth Vader regalla na sya.

To Mr/Ms Naz:

Allow me to comment on what you have earlier posted, particularly on the phrase “we cannot just keep ousting one person.”

Kindly dissuade your mind that ousting a person in office is just a matter of whims and caprices of only few or presumably half of the Filipino populace.

Let History guide you that those who were ousted in power are generally the undesirables. Back to our local setting, the Filipino people had unquestionably ousted Marcos though Erap’s ouster case still make a valid subject for legal debate no matter what the SC had finally done in favor of GMA.

A person’s ouster in office is always a compelled by a valid reason, in the case of GMA– her implied admission of guilt in relation to her rigging the results of the last election.

Reinventing the government as what you have posited earlier may only be true if all Filipinos, including GMA, will start reinventing ourselves.

And the first step of reinventing particularly for GMA –is to resign.

Let us face it. The administration allies particularly those appointed in high places are running scared because without Gloria Arroyo in the Palace they will also be on the way out. They have to move heaven and earth now to support Gloria Arroyo. If everyone has noticed, people involved in some government anomalies during the previous administrations are one in supporting Gloria Arroyo because it will be costly for them if they fail to tow the line of the Palace. Have a look at a former President and others.

In our criminal jurisprudence, one’s admission of an offense will only have a mitigating effect if said admission is timely made.

If GMA is considering that by admitting her lapses after three weeks had past could fall under the context of timeliness, then, she is awfully wrong.

The Court of Final Resort had already ruled against her favor at the very moment she opted to stonewall herself.

Now she is cajoling us to move forward and forget the past— Forgive us,Oh Lord!

I thought Vilma Santos, Naura Aunor, Maricel Soriano were the top actressess of our country. I was wrong, si GLORIA pala. When I saw here apology speech I thought it was Ate GLOW impersonating GLORIA in a GAG SHOW!!! I never thought GLORIA could really act like that. I would give her a round of applause for entertaining us for a few minutes. “Ang mga nagbubulag-bulagan lang at nagbibingi-bingihan ang maniniwala sa iyo Gloria.” I cant believe she has still the guts to even say that she wants to move on and pretend as if she just made a simple taray to a reporter like she used to do. SHAME ON YOU AND YOUR LAPDOGS… Drilon, I thought you were full of integrity. I was wrong. I can not imagine how you can still support such a pretending president… To all cabinet officials who still support GMA shame on you too. Masarap siguro sa pwesto just like Boncodin lalong tumataba, nakakabusog ba sa pwesto mo?

What the businessmen are implying is that never mind the cheating pretending president as long as we can have good business. Never mind violating the law as long as business is good. After all your title describes your character “businessmen” – Basta may pera ayos na.

But the most sading thing of all is that almost all government institutions are in CONSPIRACY to this anomally, justice dept, PNP, AFP, NBI, COMELEC, majority of congress, etc.

“Say sorry and let us move on…” Plus the rehearsed speech at ang melo-dramatic tone.

It just destroys sincerity in her actions.

Its just part of those dooms-day imagination hackers. I wish we could leave Susan her own sentiments.

Let us be united in one cause not in destabilizing our own conviction.

After all these is over, I have wish to make… the presidency accounts to the people. So let her/him accounts to the people. The SONA should be held in Luneta not in Congress. Let the people hear the president’s intentions and let the president presents her’s or his’ to the people.

We have a very mechanize political atmosphere here. Let us personalize Malacanang and offer also personalized responsibility to the people.

ATTY C and my fellow filipinos in the Philippines, after reading the speech of Susan Roces, she is ready to help out the filipinos to enforce the rule that GMA had violated. Susan Roces is not interested in going to politcs as she suggested already but mainly wanting to help and ready if needed her help. This lady is lending her hand as ordinary citizen. Did any of you thought of building an organization like we have here in USA the “ACLU” maybe this sites are interested on this: http://www.aclu.org/
ACLU is a american civil liberties union a non – profit organization that PROTECTS the american citizens rights. This is unbiased organization, they are like a “watchdog” to make sure the law is properly applied and no human being is being taken advantage by the government or wealthy people that had so much influenced. I think Miss Susan Roces is a great director of such organization like this. It is mainly pro-bono, lawyers are volunteers and other professionals are contributing their time for free. This is non- politics, it is about the CIVIL rights of every citizen of our country. Maybe if anyone out there reading this might consider. This organization is like the spokeperson of the whole citizenry.

to noelet: nagsalita na si susan strongly against gma’s continued stay in the palace; na-supercede na ang sinasabi mong “I wish we could leave susan (to) her own sentiments.

to xena: it is not correct to state :..”PAREHO LANG SILANG DALAWA..” Walang comparison between susan roces and gloria arroyo; magkaiba sila ng sitwasyon.

On the contrary, opposite silang dalawa. But we are hopelessly divided between Gloria and Susan (or whoever you want to pit against GMA).

Although it is consoling that those who support the ouster of Gloria are geometrically growing in number.

There goes chaos this country is in again!

Nobody is a dignified leader! Its such a shame to the rest of the world.

But the saddest part of the story is there goes the clamor for an impeachment, for another leader, for another president!

WHO IS QUALIFIED TO BE NEXT PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT?

Who is capable of being honest to his countrymen, set aside his political agenda and take us away from this pit?

Indeed, saying sorry is not enough..To forgive may help but to forget may not heal the wounds of betrayal the Filipino people is experiencing right now.

Many and even almost of our leaders are traitors to the interest of their “CONSTITUENTS”. And people up there in Manila are working towards destabilization without them knowing (o maybe they plan it out). And that is the worst part of all.

In fairness to the president she has a good plan for the country. Sayang ang ten point agenda ni PGMA if what this will lead us up to is another stepping down of the presidency.

It’s sad when there are those interest groups who always looks for mistakes and use the masses for revolution. eh, hindi naman alam ng masa kung paano patatakbuhin ang ekonomiya. Sila rin naman ang magbe-benifit not the country as a whole.

KAMI DITO SA KABILANG PANIG NG PILIPINAS ANG NALILITO!

We are living peacefully here in Mindanao, to help ourselves finding the means to uplift our economic well-being. We follow instructions, we submit to their demands and now we are shaken again with all these troubles.

The least thing we wish we could have is to perhaps not to clamor for another president but to clamor for a Mindanao Republic to keep us away from the endless chaos the “Imperial Manila” is frequently experiencing.

And that’s hitting below the belt. I personally brand said statements as FOUL.

Your confusion on the present political imbroglio could be properly addressed by exerting more efforts on your part to dig the truth.

Definitely, I cannot dictate upon yourself what methods to adopt to suit your needs. But to air your frustrations based on wrong premise, facts and inferences and to include all the denizens of Imperial Manila, then that is definitely unfair.

Have you ever considered the fact that even the people of Imperial Manila got relatives there in Mindanao? or vice-versa?

Our basic law guarantees your freedom of speech— please use it responsibly.

It’s important for a leader to consolidate his or her rule especially if s/he’s assumed office in a democracy via a majority vote (but if you look at this closely the majority vote is STILL a minority of the population if you take into consideration that there are many candidates for presidency and each of them chips away a portion of the vote). Because the president is installed by only a small percentage of the population (but more than his or her rival candidate) s/he tends to spend the rest of his/her term as presidency trying to win over the segments of the population who had voted for the other candidates.

The largest group of people who the politicians always try to ‘catch’ are what is generally known as the ‘masses’. If they were an organized group (I speak of the urban masses, for rural masses are another matter altogether) a solid vote from them would be enough to guarantee a national candidate to win.

But (and i assume most knows this) the masses are not qualified to make a decision as important as installing someone in a national office. For, let’s face the reality here, they are ruled by their emotions and these are all too easy to manipulate especially by the ones that make a living out of it (and then you can also factor in their financial needs and how that can be manipulated as well).

My point is this: the election system is flawed in the first place. Does it make any difference if our incumbent president cheated? Everyone else has. At least she had the audacity to admit it on national TV. Would you rather than she didn’t?

Another point: There is such a thing as an ABUSIVE democracy. Should we let our society fall into anarchy, just because we’re unsatisfied with the government (again)? (And have we ever been satisfied? Will we ever be satisfied?) What makes you think the next one would be different, s/he wasn’t the one who had made a mistake, and would have learned from it by now.

It seems to me that we’ve concentrated the blame on Gloria, and somehow have formed this delusion that it’s always the government’s fault. But this isn’t always the case. The government can’t do anything without the support of the people (it is after all, made up OF people). And even before any of this has started, did we even give a chance for that to happen? By the way we’re acting, we never did.

About the moral dimension of all of this. I acknowledge the need for justice, but instead of crying for the president’s blood all the time, why don’t we do justice to our society first? Why don’t we reform ourselves first?

Haven’t you even considered that you are just being used as a puppet, “worth your vote”, so that another power, god-knows-what can assume leadership over you (and to oppress you all the same)?

Will you let them have that privilege?

To Neritheka : Allow me a few quick reactions to your posts:

You posted: My point is this: the election system is flawed in the first place. Does it make any difference if our incumbent president cheated? Everyone else has. At least she had the audacity to admit it on national TV. Would you rather than she didn’t?

My response : Yes, it SURELY does make a difference. Our election law, no matter how flawed it is, is still the law. As the law stands, it follows that no one should be above the law much more to a President who took an oath to execute all the laws of the land twice. I invite you to read the legal papers presented by FLAG and CODAL, made available for free in this site, to further aid you in your opinion making endeavors.

It is further erroneous for you to generalize that “everyone else has” cheated (presumably in the last election). Granting that said generalization be allowed, you are unfairly accusing those who run unopposed. Worst, it is an implied advocacy that cheating is perfectly all right. I, in particular, cannot swallow that kind of advocacy.

And whether or not GMA had the audacity to admit “it” on national TV is immaterial. For the answer practically depends on what side of the fence, the audience belongs. But one thing is clear, the People of the Philippines, the masses included, is not that ALL stupid as what GMA and her cohorts would like to make them appear.

You posted : There is such a thing as an ABUSIVE democracy. Should we let our society fall into anarchy, just because we’re unsatisfied with the government (again)? (And have we ever been satisfied? Will we ever be satisfied?) What makes you think the next one would be different, s/he wasn’t the one who had made a mistake, and would have learned from it by now.

My response : This is a fallacy and its very obvious the reason why. Let us not mislead the PCIJ bloggers by putting red herrings. They are too smart to be taken for a ride :)

You posted: It seems to me that we’ve concentrated the blame on Gloria, and somehow have formed this delusion that it’s always the government’s fault. But this isn’t always the case. You posted: Haven’t you even considered that you are just being used as a puppet, “worth your vote”, so that another power, god-knows-what can assume leadership over you (and to oppress you all the same)?

I have read the transcripts of the wiretapped tapes and contrary to what GMA wants us to believe, she cheated in the last elections. Let us call it as it is. Enough of this bullshit about the inadmisibility of the tapes. At any rate some legal luminaries are saying that it is admissible. (read raul pangalanan’s column inquirer) GMA cheated us, so she must suffer the consequences. It is no longer a legal nor a political issue but a moral issue already. I am not being self-righteous here. I am not perfect and made a lot of mistakes or to borrow GMA’s words commited numerous lapses in jugdment. However, I expect my president to be more morally upright than me at the very least. Cheating in the elections just doesn’t cut it for me.
I am no Erap nor opposition fan. But for all Erap’s faults, he did not curtail our rights to express ourselves. I just shook my head when the government raided a printing press for allegedly commiting acts of sedition. I almost fell off my seat when I heard the LTFRB chairman saying jeepney driver’s honking the hello garci tones may be arrested for inciting to sedition. I laugh albeit nervously whenever Raul Gonzalez opens his mouth. This guy would willingly trample our rights to express ourselves for the sake of his President.
Let us forgive a person who sincerely ask for forgiveness but let us rebuke him/her who continously make fools out of us. GMA MUST RESIGN.

to indio_lawless: Your comments are noted. Thank you!

Indeed the truth should be digged up but the question now is what is the “real” truth then?

Actually the president’s apology speech is so vague. Did she really apologize for cheating in the last election? I guess not she apologize for conversing to a COMELEC Official and taking so long to speak before her electorates on the matter. “ANd the issue of the tape has Spun out of control”.. BUt maybe this will lead us to the truth…

but as of the moment. if we judge her as a cheater that is based on our own judgment. We can’t take the law into our own hands. I guess to dig up the truth then is to present the facts and carry the matter in due process of law and in accordance to the constitution of the Philippines based on the facts presented.

The facts, the evidences should be considered. Not through our emotions that are greatly affected by the media or the people around us.

Let’s listen closely to the tape, at which point there that the president is worthy of impeachment? I guess none. YEt this might lead us to the truth therefore may theydig up the truth, go through investigations until the truth will come out.

Let the people we vote and those we pay our taxes for do their work.Let’s get down to our own business and strive to contribute something to our economy.

Wish ko lang after this controversy, we will be promised of a better Philippines…Many have cheated, many have been put into trial, but the real truth has yet to come…The long wait is not over, from the ill gotten wealth of the Marcoses to the Fraud case of ERAP…THere goes another president, now adjudged of cheating…then the clamor of another president…

WHAT’s NEXT?…..

I can not accept GMA’s apology. Her intention s not to seek for one, but to deceive us into believing that she did, thinking that we will be fooled to drop our call for her resignation or ouster if she didn’t. She didn’t authenticate nor admit that she’s the one on the tape and that she cheated. Her psuedo apology was carefully crafted in such a way that would allow her to escape prosecution by citing RA4200, if not not deny that she’s the one on the tape.

But ofcourse, we are not fooled.

All legal means to seek the truth and seek redress will be pursued. Though i’m are wary of impeachment and on the probability that the presidential and vp election be declared failure by the PET. But nonetheless, the people should be denied of all extra legal means to seek the truth.

Nobody, can assure you that the country will go for the better after this controversy has been settled, but it offers us hope and an opportunity for genuine change, huwag natin itong palampasin, but with Gloria and with people willing to accept cheating and corruption, i see none.

Thank you for taking time to read my post and dissect it. This is my feedback to the “erroneous generalizations” and “fallacies” you found.

I am not condoning her cheating, but merely keeping in mind other important matters, such as the political economic situation of this country.

Also, am I on trial here? Please make the effort to appropriate your words to the situation. Not everyone can understand court-room-jargon.
Law, and its root in logic and rationality are just one method of looking at things. There are many interpretations of reality and to insist on the primacy of one (especially in the realm of opinions) is to do injustice to the others.

To take your spin, making the generalization that PCIJ bloggers are “too smart to be taken in for the ride,”, are a fallacy as well because a brief survey of the statements made earlier in this entry (and elsewhere in the site) would readily prove you wrong.

Please don’t presume that I am a GMA cohort or some such thing. I am merely a reformist who felt the need to balance the scale of opinions. I recall Archbishop Rosales calling for sobriety and that is precisely what I’m doing.

And Ma’am/Sir, please don’t fake politeness for my sake. You could have made the effort by constructing more neutral statements about your sentiments, rather than following up an insult with an apology.

Thank you for the chance to exchange opinions. I wish you luck in your undertakings.

Marubdob,

i am appending my username as gesture of support for the ouster of PGMA

Nakakatuwa…lam nyo ba kong bakit? during the house hearing on wire tapping cntroversy, Atty. Paguia presented to the joint commte with edited audiotape at maraming tumutol at nagtanong na pro administration congresmen bakit edited ang tape? ibinulong ng mga tao sa gallery…kaya edited yan kasi yong admission speech ni PGMA ay edited rin…ha ha ha

GRANTED THAT THE PRESIDENT APOLOGIZE, IT IS NOT ENOUGH THAT WE WILL ALLOW HER TO CONTINUE PUBLIC OFFICE LIKE WHAT HER ALLIES SAY…DRILON,PECHAY,GONZALES,DEPENSOR ET’AL. IF WE WILL FORGIVE HER SHE SHOULD FIRST ADMIT THE WHOLE TRUTH THAT SHE CHEATED THE FILIPINO PEOPLE DURING THE LAST ELECTION AND FOLLOWED WITH HER RESIGNATION FROM PRESIDENCY.MAYBE, WE CAN FORGIVE HER IN THE ASPECT OF WAIVING CRIMINAL CHARGES.

dear JAMMER, this is my view:

If there is to be admired in the armed forces of the Philippines it’s the enlisted men and the non-commissioned officers. And you can not say the same for the Philippine National Police.

our armed forces getting orders from their commander-in-chief is a CANNIBAL that eat the flesh of its own people. For as long as you can remember (ask our brother Muslims) the organization is a CANNIBAL. They kill their own people they are supposed to protect and defend.

The CANNIBAL exists in many poor countries. The armed forces of many developed countries are not CANNIBALS. THEY DO NOT KILL THEIR OWN PEOPLE. Think of the armed forcess of JAPAN, AUSTRALIA, USA, SWITZERLAND, AND THE BALTIC COUNTRIES.

THERE ARE A LOT OF GOBBLEDYGOOKS BEHIND THIS CANNIBAL THING, LET THE INTELLECTUALS SAY THEIR PIECE.

[…] Saludo described the president as a “person with high religious and moral values.” But he stopped short of saying if she would step down from office if asked to do so by the CBCP, after she herself had admitted a “lapse in judgment” in calling then Elections Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano after the May 2004 elections. […] IT has been a month since the taped conversations between Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Comelec Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano suggesting manipulation of presidential election results to favor Arroyo has come to the public’s knowledge. Since then, five committees of the House of Representatives have been jointly conducting hearings on the contents of the tapes. An impeachment case against Arroyo has recently been filed. The opposition, ‘civil society’ organizations, and the Left have invariably called on the president to resign after she admitted and apologized on national television for her “lapse in judgment” for calling a Comelec official yet unnamed. INSIDE PCIJ: Stories behind our stories » The Bunye tapes analyzed

July 24th, 2005 at 5:56 pm

[…] The analysis might also shed new light on Bunye’s recantation during the House hearings. At one point, the press secretary mentioned that his clips are the "original" ones (with the "yung dagdag" portions clearly present and which even showed a 100-percent similarity with the three-hour recording and the voice that uttered it). Seen in light of Pres. Arroyo’s apology admitting that she did talk to a Comelec official, what Bunye may have done was a "passive" declaration that it was indeed Arroyo talking to a commissioner discussing about "yung dagdag." INSIDE PCIJ: Stories behind our stories » Freedom House reports press freedom decline in RP

April 29th, 2006 at 9:53 pm

[…] While a censorship board broadly has the power to edit or ban content, government censorship does not generally enforce political orientation. In June, the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism published the wiretapped conversation that would confirm electoral fraud, launching the presidential impeachment campaign that would dominate Philippine politics for much of the year. Press coverage of the impeachment trial, the controversial EO464, and President Gloria Arroyo’s “cha-cha” (charter change) campaign was wide-ranging and extensive. Online media was particularly active, allowing the public to comment directly on trial developments. According to the Philippines Journalism Review, media coverage demonstrated less bias during Arroyo’s impeachment trial than during Estrada’s in 2000-2001. The Arroyo administration has generally shown considerable intolerance toward the media, especially foreign, for exposing corruption. Controversy surrounded the president’s June 27 “I’m sorry” press conference, where only ten “pre-selected” reporters were allowed to ask questions and representatives of international news organizations were barred from the event.
