‘PEOPLE power practiced too often sends a message abroad that you’re an unstable country’

intengan.jpgA Jesuit priest and medical doctor active in the anti-Marcos resistance, Fr. Archie fled to Sabah in 1980, after incurring Imelda’s ire. There, he lived in a Moro rebel camp together with other dissidents. He later flew to Spain to study, while remaining active in the party he helped found, the Partido Demokratiko Sosyalista ng Pilipinas (PDSP). The PDSP was against both Marcos and the communists. Intengan returned to Manila after Edsa, remaining with the PDSP while also serving for some time as provincial superior of the Philippine Jesuits. Today he gives President Arroyo occasional advice on religious matters.

Vernon Totanes interviews Fr. Archie in this podcast.

Was EDSAI a “miracle”? or was it “people power” ? When we chose to believe the latter, we lost the “miracle” of EDSA, the miracle that could have transformed us and our nation inside-out.

My uncle is also a Jesuit priest. Fr. Hilario Lim. Sj. He is my idol. He is a historian and fought for the Filipinization of churches. He died some years ago. I wish i had been able to spend time with him to listen to his stories.

I know it would be interesting to learn from Father Intengan, His views and contribution.

Alecks Pabico,

Your last line is ( CUT-N-PASTED) – Today he gives President Arroyo occasional advice on religious matters.

Advising a person to tell the TRUTH is a religious matter.
Please tell Father Intengan to advise the woman who claim to be President of the Philippines to tell this nation the whole TRUTH and NOTHING BUT the TRUTH !!!.

Hello Philippines,

I met Fr.Intengan in 1986 and I am very impressed with his vision about Philippine democracy.I was using a non de guere because some extremist leftist friends targeted me for liquidation because they thought I was a DPA.I was not and I will never be.

I am now 50 years old.I am still the same idealist and activist of the 80’s.I was not afraid of the threats and warnings I received from people who are neo-fascist or neo-barbarians.

I am completing my “remedial educations”.I completed two years of law-proper from the Philippines and continued my studies abroad because my family thought I was better off and safer in America.I attended several schools including the coveted and famous Harvard University – The only difference is/was that my classmates were mostly “white” or caucasians…I sincerely believed that Pilipinos are very intelligent if given the opportunity and resources to compete.

We have worldclass students and leaders…we are just sort “impoverished”.

(No disrespect intended for the last comment)

Nonoy.
