Edsa 20/20: Raymundo Jarque

‘WE returned to democracy, but the practices are undemocratic’

jarque.jpgThen an army colonel stationed in Pampanga, Jarque joined the military rebellion that toppled Marcos and barricaded the highways to prevent loyalist troops from moving to Manila. In 1989, as the general who headed the Negros Island Command, he launched a vicious offensive against communist rebels. Ironically, a few years later, Jarque would seek protection in a communist camp after a Negrense landlord unjustly accused him of theft and corruption. Jarque has since returned to “normal life” but remains a maverick, keeping in touch with communist friends while securing a government corporation.

Alecks P. Pabico talks to Jarque in this podcast.

This Gen. Jarque is one example of an idiot military officer who exemplifies ingratitude to the hands that fed him. He was schooled at the PMA as a scholar and was given practically everything to prepare him to be an “officer and a gentleman”. But what did he turn out to be? He figured in a controversial stealing incident in Negros involving seafoods from a fishpond. I didn’t know he loved seafoods that much. In the process allowed himself to be used by a faction of warring landlords and politicians in the abovementioned province. In order to escape punishment, he defected to the enemies of the state, the NPAs, which I am sure he has sworn to fight against, not with. I remember the time when then Pres. Ramos held a regional Cabinet meeting in Cadiz City, Neg. Occ. Before the President arrived, then DND Sec. De Villa and DILG Sec. Barbers held a small group meeting with Jarque’s supporters who were asking for his forgiveness and reinstatement which the former flatly denied, which is just proper. And when Gen. Jarque attempted to enter the U.S. to visit a daughter, again a denial from the U.S. government to let them in on grounds that he is an NPA consultant. Napahiya na naman ang mga Pilipino. These kinds of personalities are giving the Pinoys abroad a bad name. I have no respect for the man. Sayang ang taxes na ginastos sa kanya.
