Gov’t monitoring 2 more journalists?

AUTHORITIES have been “shadowing” a news editor and a female reporter from a Manila-based newspaper who supposedly met a Chinese-Filipino believed to be part of the oust-Arroyo movement, the Manila Times said in a report today.

The Times quoted an intelligence report as saying the meetings preceded the exposés on alleged anomalies in the government written by the journalists.

Malaya, meanwhile, reported that the Presidential Security Group now maintains a time log of members of the Malacanang Press Corps to keep tabs on their attendance.

In addition, the PSG makes the journalists undergo inspection before they leave the Palace’s Kalayaan Gate, the report said.

Even before this, journalists going to Kalayaan Hall via Arlegui gate already have to undergo four inspections – before they enter Arlegui Gate, a few steps after disembarking from the San Miguel-Quiapo jeepney near Gate 1, upon entering Kalayaan Gate, and at the Technical Inspection Center at the foot of Kalayaan Hall.

During the state of national emergency, the Palace imposed a curfew on Malacanang beat reports, allowing them to work at the press office until 8 p.m. on weekdays and up to 6 p.m. on weekends.

Mike Defensor brings a new style of managing the national media to the Palace. Media, after all, were named as part of the Vast Leftist Rightist Conspiracy to destablize the Arroyo govt. Mike cannot forget his own successful use of the Media to destablize Erap. Even today he can shape the Media battleground with his own tactics. He controls his own vast and well-endowed Philippine Information Agency and our own versions of Pravda/Izvestia/Radio Peking style of media assets. After a while, I think it will feel like shadow-boxing as Mike lines up his own Vast Central Ministry of Truth and Responsible Journalism.

I call it Debonnaire Martial Law.

And for Gloria in the Palace, it is the necessity of staying in the office at all cost.

LOOK at RA 4200 Section (1B) Provided, That the use of such record or any copies thereof as evidence in any civil, criminal investigation or trial of offenses mentioned in Section (3) hereof, shall not be covered by this prohibition.

The upcoming case, Tiongco vs. PCIJ (Sheila Coronel) will necessarily involve the Garci Recordings as EVIDENCE in the cases of libel, obstruction of justice and alleged perjury.

Thank you Jonathan Tiongco. Suddenly the Garci Tapes are no longer “poisonned fruits” but will become Court-sanctioned evidence in a criminal case. Thank you Jonathan Tiongco! Now the Supreme Court may even have a difficult time granting Garci’s Second Petition, since that is also the same body of documentary evidence submitted to the 5 Congress committees.

PCIJ should demand a speedy trial in this case!

For the Garci Recordings to become MATERIAL and RELEVANT in the case against PCIJ, their ORIGIN and PROVENANCE must be established by the Prosectuion! Happy paradox. This is one case in which it may be in the interest of the Defense to help the Prosecution in that regard! After all, one of the best defenses against a charge of libel is having told the truth.

Ang nakakatawa pa jan, Garcillano was invoking his right to remain silent regarding the wiretapped conversations during the congress hearings because of his pending case in the Supreme Court with regards to his rights indicated in the anti-wiretapping law. But, in order to uphold your rights with this law, you must acknowledge first that it was your voice in the conversations and that you were wiretapped illegally.

He denies that it was his voice in the wiretapped conversation, yet he was claiming that his privacy was violated.

Rizalist, I like what you say, “Debonnaire Martial Law.”

There is also a saying in law that “If the evidence is against you, prevent it from being presented or admitted through technicalities.” That’s EXACTLY what GLUE-RIA and her cohorts are doing. Doesn’t this tactic happen when one is close to the “end?”

Maybe the search for the truth to all this fiasco must be in media as it seems that GLUE-RIA and her cohorts are doing everything possible to gag them.

There is a saying [in law] that goes, “If the evidence is against you, prevent it from being presented or admitted through technicalities.” Isn’t this what GLUE-RIA et al are or have been doing? Plainly put, these are tactics of the GUILTY.

Shadows of the past will continue to haunt them until the last days of their lives. You may avoid the issues now but definitely time will come when one will have nowhere to go. Guilt is such a painful and slow death. As they say, ” you can run, but you can never hide”.

[…] The aim was to iron out kinks in daily presidential coverages. Or the “friction” that usually heat up when EACH AND EVERYONE OF US just wanted to do our respective jobs around the President. (well, THAT or the meeting was a knee jerk reaction—a much needed one naman— to the present issue of restricted media movement inside the palace or sa presidency na ito)(click here for the PCIJ story and other links about this issue) Paynor started the meeting by assuring everyone that he “will try his best to help..”. Pure intimidation, only an insecure administration will do such monitoring to media!!! In fact an honest leader, would incourage media’s presence and openess.
If a leader wants the country to MOVE ON, she wouldnt mind the media, the critics, the leftist, the rightist and the destabilisers. THAT IS IF SHE HAS A TIGHT AND HONORABLE GRIP TO POWER.

The attitude of the present Malacanang occupant and her alepores only shows, how insecure and sleepless they are.

May the GOOD LORD give them enough courage and strenght to face reality and FINALLY leave THE PINOY HOUSE, before BIG BROTHER DRIVE THEM OUT!!!
