Tiongco strikes again

SOUND engineer Jonathan Tiongco filed this morning five counts of libel against PCIJ executive director Sheila Coronel and counsel Sandra Olaso-Coronel, following their appearance in a Senate hearing on March 14.

Tiongco also sued nine other media executives and their reporters, for publishing and airing what he said were “libelous quotations” from the PCIJ.

Those included in the suit are: Letty Magsanoc, Isagani Yambot, Norman Bordadora, and Philip Tubeza of the Philippine Daily Inquirer; Maria Ressa, Luchie Cruz-Valdez, and Lynda Jumilla of the ABS-CBN; and Katrice Jalbuena and Ronnie Calumpita of the Manila Times.

The libel case is Tiongco’s seventh suit against the PCIJ and the fourth against ABS-CBN. Yet Tiongco, in his latest complaint, says he is the one being harassed by PCIJ. He also did not sue other networks and newspapers that ran similar reports on the Senate hearing.

During a Senate inquiry on the effects of Proclamation 1017 on the media, Coronel and Olaso-Coronel told members of the Justice and Human Rights Committee how the Quezon City police, along with Tiongco, tried but failed to secure a warrant to search the PCIJ office.

In his latest complaint-affidavit, Tiongco said he never applied for a search warrant, even if he and three policewomen were seen by journalists and the PCIJ lawyer at the office of RTC Judge Alan Balot on March 13 . He used the same arguments he previously made in separate cases of perjury and obstruction of justice he filed against Coronel last week. In those complaints, Tiongco said the PCIJ was harassing him and his family so that he “may not testify in favor of the government.”

Then Environment secretary and now Presidential Chief of staff Mike Defensor presented Tiongco before the media on August 12, 2005, at the height of the “Hello, Garci” controversy. Tiongco during the press conference said that the alleged wiretapped conversations between the president and former elections commissioner Virgilio Garcillano have been tampered with.

In addition, Tiongco said, Justice secretary Raul Gonzalez “has spoken and announced that the PCIJ is being monitored for illegal posting of wiretapped material which tend to incite the public to sedition.”

“The seditious effects of such postings are not imaginary,” Tiongco said in the complaint-affidavit.

There’s a saying; what’s good for a goose , good for a gander. Why not throw back to Mr Tiongco what he’s dishing out? And throw them as hard as Roger (the Rocket) Clemens. Strike Out-Get Out of Here.

GMA wants to ‘silenced’ this courageous media people. Ang mga kinasuhan ni Tiongco ay mga ‘destabilizers’ daw according to Malakanyang dahil ito ang mga nagsasabi ng katotohanan about the EVILS OF GMA.

alam naman natin na masyado silang bilib sa ating justice system at rule of law …. kaya nga tuwing may paratang sa kanila ang sabi ay ” i’ll see you in court ” , ” i’ll answer those charges in the proper venue ” , ” let’s follow due process and the rule of law ” , etc etc .

DAPAT IPATAWAG AT IMBESTIGAHAN SI TSONGO NG SENADO PARA MAGKAALAMAN NA!

HINDI NAMAN SYA COVERED NG EO 464 DI BA? HE CAN’T HIDE UNDER THE SKIRT OF THE “RIGHT TO PRIVACY” EITHER CUZ HE WAS THE ONE WHO INITIATED THE WHOLE THING. BUT I TRUST HE WILL COME UP WITH AN EXCUSE NOT TO FACE THE SENATE LIKE A COWARD WOULD.

THE SENATE SHOULD FEEL INSULTED AND VIOLATED IF THE LIKES OF TSONGO CAN HARASS PEOPLE WHO APPEAR IN SENATE INQUIRIES WHO TELL THE TRUTH.

THERE’S A HAND UNDER THE ASS OF THE PUPPET. LET US UNCOVER THAT HAND. IT SEEMS THAT THE PUPPET ENJOYS GETTING IT UP HIS ASS!!!

HONORABLE SENATORS, IS IT NOT YOUR SWORN DUTY TO PROTECT OUR FRAGILE DEMOCRACY?

LET US UNCOVER THE TRUE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE.

Pick up the similarities sa situation natin ngayn and i think you’ll get the whole picture.

The evil dictator using dictatorship of the masses to punish the taxpayers.
Marcos came 40 years ago. Nalinlang niya ang masa. Now it’s GMA. Masaya.

INSIDE PCIJ: Stories behind our stories » PCIJ blog turns one year old

April 4th, 2006 at 12:40 pm

[…] Indeed, a year’s existence has been historic in more ways than one. As the first institutional journalism/media blog in the country, ours also was the first to be charged with a libel case, and subsequently the first to be issued a TRO by a trial court judge in relation to a post on Jonathan Tiongco, Michael Defensor’s self-styled audio forensics expert. It would eventually become the “best dressed” blog too with Tiongco, displaying a rare gift of litigiousness, filing six more cases against us. […]
