THE Manila prosecutor’s office has recommended the filing of a libel case against Malaya publisher Amado P. Macasaet for writing about First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo’s supposed failure to keep his word to give financial assistance to a sister of a member of the Presidential Security Guard suffering from brain cancer.

The prosecutor said Macasaet’s Business Insight column item on July 9, 2004, entitled “First Couple’s idea of charity,” caused Arroyo “physical suffering, mental anguish, fright, serious anxiety, besmirched reputation, wounded feelings, moral shock, social humiliation and similar injury.”

The prosecutor recommended that Macasaet and his co-respondent, Malaya business editor Rosario Galang, pay the First Gentleman P10 million in moral damages and P1 million in attorney’s fees.

Macasaet had written:

Weeks after the elections a kind-hearted man tried to get in touch with Mike Arroyo in the hope of getting assistance for Rowena Juno, sister of a member of the Presidential Security Guard.

Juno has been in excruciating pain at the V. Luna Medical Center, suffering from brain cancer.

The executive assistant of Mike Arroyo promised P100,000 but the money never came. In the end, the matter was referred to the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. “Before that, another person called up somebody, presumed to handle money in the office of President Arroyo, he was told that ‘we have no money.’

The request was also referred to the PCSO. “Ms. Juno spends an estimated P50,000 a day in the faint hope of getting well. But she has run out of money. “The story here is that Mike Arroyo is trying to build a name for charity.

Now that the election is over, he would not even part with any amount for the sister of a PSG member. Neither would the President draw some money from her Special Fund which is not subject to audit.

Politicians are the most charitable people on this planet while they are campaigning. After they win, they become tight-fisted. And the money may not even be theirs.

How can a joke like Mike Arroyo claim that in Mr. Macasaet’s specific column caused him “physical suffering, mental anguish, fright, serious anxiety, besmirched reputation, wounded feelings, moral shock, social humiliation and similar injury”? What a comedy! Isn’t Manny Paquiao more trusted than a mere Mike Arroyo? The gall to sue to Mr. Macasaet when Mike Arroyo admitted that he was involved in staging a coup in EDSA 2! Mike Arroyo should be sued by the Filipino people as he and his wife has caused the people “physical suffering, mental anguish, fright, serious anxiety, besmirched reputation, wounded feelings, moral shock, social humiliation and similar injury!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

can i ask all filipinos to wake up!!the only thing that FG,PGMA and his group can do evil on us filipinos is when we all good men and women filipinos do nothing.
FG,PGMA and his group has been filing cases at court up to SC using the services of the FIRM,Villaraza and Angcangco law firm and even using sattelite law offices to file cases to people or group who oppose them or tell their evil way..
remeber FPJ,accusing him of US citizen.Sen Lacson, reviving cases against him.Jingoy Estrada, Military officers who tells their cheating in the last election.the batasan 5,Rep Beltran and even the group of Hyatt 10,
I wish and pray we all wake up and oust this evil group of FG and PGMA.so that we can show to the world that in this country the Philippines we love,”,Crime does not pay!” and also we put this evil group of FG and GMA to where they belong….PRISON so they will be an example that Philippine is not an haven of Cheaters,Liers and stealer!!

Chabeli, you are so very right. What reputation is Mike Arroyo refering to? I guess this is the reason why GMA is pushing for the abolition of the Death Penalty. She feels that she may soon be ousted and charged with punder together with her cohorts. This also the reason why she had appointed her trusted minions to the SC.

Truly, Mike and GMA deserve eachother, one who files libel cases even when its not libelous and one who files sedition cases when its not seditious. Both are afraid of the ghosts they created. All I can say is, “they’re both basket CASES”.

Poor, Miguel Arroyo! Now he tries to get a financial hit by claiming that Mr. Macasaet article caused him social humiliation, wounded feelings, moral shock, etc., etc. Why did he promise to help in the first place and cannot fulfill it? His libel case against Mr. Macasaet and Malaya newspaper proves that himself and his wife think that they can menace and suppress the media by suing everyone writing against them.

A strong proof and indication that after the election, politicians’ promises quickly vanish. And if they do comply to financially help someone, they will get the money back million times over, from the tax-payers coffers! And to think that Miguel Arroyo is not elected to office. He just happen to be the husband of the president yet he throws tantrum and ran amok. To show what? Nothing, but there lowly acts against the people, their employers, their masters! They totally forgotten that facts!

Hi, Schumey. Thanks. I also agree with your comments a 100% on the abolition of the Death Penalty. As if crucifying the Filipinos were not enough, GMA, FG and their cronies have passed down the Death Penalty on Filipinos (by their continued stay in power). When will our resurrection come?
