BBC launches editors’ blog

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has recently launched a weblog written by its news editors.

In The Editors, BBC’s news editors for its various outlets — TV, radio and interactive — will write about issues they face every day in doing their jobs.

In her welcome post, BBC director of news, Helen Boaden, said: “We are committed to being impartial, fair and accurate — these are the qualities which BBC News is rightly expected to uphold. But we also want to be open and accountable.”

“We are hoping,” Boaden wrote, “this blog will be a fresh way of having a direct conversation with you, our audiences.”

Already, the blog has gotten a mix of welcome notes from BBC readers. One called the blog, “a splendid idea;” there are skeptics, however, who say that the blog will be heavily censored, anyway, and thus be far from the conversation channel that it purports to be.

Another reader said, “Make it worth reading and we’ll read it.”
