The Estrada Plunder TrialTHAT he has had numerous affairs has brought him either admiration, ambivalence or derision. But that he has built huge houses for them in posh subdivisions has made former president Joseph Estrada face questions about his wealth, adding fuel to the calls to have him impeached just two years after his landslide victory.

In November 2000, the PCIJ came out with the report “An Embarrassment of Houses,” detailing how Estrada, his family members, or corporations otherwise associated with him have acquired 17 pieces of choice property in Metro Manila, Baguio and Tagaytay amounting to almost P2 billion. Estrada’s declared net worth in 1999 was only P35.8 million.

In revisiting the now infamous “Erap mansions,” an observer will not miss the stark contrasts in the proud display of wealth and power one day, and the retreat from the glare of public scrutiny the next. The “Boracay mansion” has been stripped bare. Meantime, a grand mansion painted white and blue now stands at Molave corner Banaba Street in Forbes Park, Makati.

Here’s a visual update on the status of Estrada’s properties.

Hmmm, let me look into the predictable Philippine crystal ball. Like so many worn and recycled telenovelas and movies catering to the stupid majority, I would guess that Estrada will be found GUILTY. (Otherwise, it would mean that Arroyo has been an illegitimate president all along.) However, the present government will pardon this thief or the court will say, “Time already served, you are free to go Mr. President.” Tapos, medio magkakagulo na meron na namang mga protesta. Then, Arroyo will appeal for RECONCILIATION, RECONCILIATION, NATIONAL HEALING, RECONCILIATION blah blah blah. In a few weeks or months, parang walang nangyari. I really think our national anthem should be revised so as to reflect reality:

Ryebosco,

I don’t know what the problem is from your end. We are able to view the slideshow without a hitch.

Erap is as guilty as hell & has always been dirty. So many like him deserve to go to jail too.The only thing is that erap is the most stupid of them all.He really got screwed because of so many maling akala. If the nation goes beyound this episode of sending erap to jail w/o having to distabilize the entire nation. The nation would achive a new level of maturity to be able to send more ass holes to jail & there have more of a chance to truely prosper & progress & focus on the things that count.
