PCIJ launches crowd sourcing project

The Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism launched its Suriin Ang Kahirapan crowd sourcing project during 20th anniversary celebrations at the Asian Institute of Management last Sept. 30 2009.

Suriin is a poverty audit, initially of the five poorest provinces in the country, wherein ordinary citizens, teachers, religious leaders, and concerned NGOs from affected provinces are tapped as the primary sources of stories and story ideas in their areas. Through this project, PCIJ hopes to empower ordinary citizens to tell their own stories and identify issues that are of primary concern to their communities.
