Our latest offering is a report by multimedia journalist JJ Jimeno on the perils of covering Maguindanao – the Philippines’ second poorest province – where clans and warlords rule, and the site of Monday’s gruesome mass massacre of journalists, women, civil society and opposition leaders.

As former deputy executive director of the PCIJ, JJ had travelled to Maguindanao for a series of reports in 2008 on the worsening state of health and education of the people, amid the growing wealth and power of the political clans led by the Ampatuans.
