Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile on Friday asked Speaker Prospero Nograles and member of the House of Representatives to pass the Freedom of Information Act. In a letter to Nograles in behalf of his colleagues in the Senate, Enrile expressed concern over the possibility of missing the “last opportunity” to pass the bill in the 14th Congress.

Enrile’s letter underscored the importance of the FOI Act, which he says “will empower our people through access to information on matters of public concern, as well as promote and enhance utmost transparency and public accountability as hallmarks of good and sound governance.”

Enrile further tells Nograles that the FOI Act, which he calls a “landmark piece of legislation,” will contribute more than just “lip service” to the right to information that is enshrined in the Constitution.
