Speaker Prospero Nograles, through his media officer Gil Bugaoisan, yesterday sought a meeting with the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism for reasons not disclosed.

Bugaoisan called and later sent a tet message to PCIJ Executive Director Malou Mangahas at 11:57 a.m. saying: “This is gil bugaoisan po. The speaker wishes 2 sit down wd u. Pde b 2day in Congress?’

Mangahas was in transit but promptly replied via text: “N way to a meeting. Not today pls.”

At 12:47 p.m., Bugaoisan sent a second message that read:

“To malou pcij, Speaker – ‘I co-sponsored FOI, and placed it on floor, to have it passed first. This bill came back to House a little too late but I still had it calendared unde rmy priority measures. On its date I attended and presided the session, and had it placed on our first agenda. What more could I have done? Regarding the media attacks on my person for being blamed on something that is not my fault. I can only hope that there is still balance & fairness in Phil journalism.Meantime, let those responsible for temporary setback of FOI laugh at our misery. I will just take comfort with the truth aboiut FOI.”
