The net-worth method

Our latest report seeks to offer context, from history and jurisprudence, on the net-worth method that the Bureau of Internal Revenue employed in the P73.58-million tax evasion case that it filed today against Ang Galing Pinoy Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo and his wife, Ma. Angela Montenegro Arroyo.

Curiously, the United States Internal Revenue Services used the same method to investigate the wealth of notorious mobster Al Capone, who was finally jailed not for mulcting or murder, but for tax evasion.
