Remembering Chit Estella

Colleagues from the journalism community paid their last respects to investigative journalist Lourdes “Chit” Estella-Simbulan, whose remains were cremated today (May 17) at the Arlington chapels in Quezon City. Chit was killed in a taxi-bus collision along Commonwealth Avenue on May 13, 2011.

Chit started out as a reporter for the Manila Evening Post, before moving on to Tempo. She covered the presidency of Corazon C. Aquino for the Ang Pahayagang Malaya before becoming the Managing Editor of The Manila Times. In 1999, she became the Editor-in-Chief of Pinoy Times, a political tabloid that made a name for exposing the excesses of then President Joseph Estrada. Chit wrote several award-winning stories as a Fellow of the PCIJ, and was also co-author of the PCIJ book, Investigating Government.
