SEAPA announces 2011 Fellows

The Southeast Asian Press Alliance (SEAPA) proudly announces the selection of its journalism Fellows for 2011.

Every year, SEAPA selects journalists from across the region to take part in a fellowship program that allows the journalists to explore other issues outside their countries of origin. For the 2011 SEAPA Fellowship, the theme is “Gearing up for a Community: How Free is the Flow of Information in ASEAN?”

The Fellows for 2011 include two veteran Filipino journalists: Froilan Gallardo of MindaNews, and Aquiles Zonio of the Philippine Daily Inquirer. The other Fellows are: Amalia Husnul A’Rofiati (“Tribun Kaltim”) and Yohanna Yuliatri Purba (KBR68H) from Indonesia; Priscilla Aneesa (“Free Malaysia Today”) and John Teo (Merdeka Review.com) from Malaysia: Julio da Silva Purba (Center for Investigative Journalism of Timor Leste) from Timor Leste; Nguyen Dinh Chinh (VnExpress Online News) from Vietnam; May Titthara (“Phnom Penh Post”) from Cambodia; and Nares Laopannarai (“Krungthep Turakij”) and Watchana Phromobol (“Kom Chad Luek”) from Thailand.

Their topics include border conflicts, free expression online, human trafficking and press freedom in restricted countries in the region.

SEAPA is a network of media organizations in Southeast Asia established in 1998 to promote and protect genuine press freedom in the region. The Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism is a founding member of SEAPA.
