While applause thundered from the gallery as President Benigno S. Aquino III delivered his second State of the Nation Address on July 25, 2011, militant groups let go their own thunder from Commonwealth Avenue several kilometers away from the Batasan Pambansa.
 
It was, to quote the President’s media handlers, an address that was supposed to focus on the need for “social transformation.” The President’s critics in the streets said not much had transformed in government in the last 14 months since he stepped up to the plate. The following are images from the Batasan Pambansa where the President delivered his 2nd State of the Nation Address, and from the streets of Commonwealth Avenue where protesters traditionally gather during SONA.
