DEFENSE LAWYERS immediately raised objections after prosecution lawyers, in their offer of testimony of Internal Revenue Commissioner Kim Henares, said they will prove that Chief Justice Renato Corona acquired and hid ill-gotten wealth.

Prosecution lawyer Arthur Lim said that Henares’ testimony will “show that respondent acquired properties as declared in his SALN which are not justified by his income as reported to the BIR.”

Further, Lim said Henares’ testimony will “show that the respondent tried to hide some of these properties in the names of his children.”

Defense counsel Serafin Cuevas objected to the offered testimony, saying this flies in the face of the earlier ruling of the Senate that it will not allow evidence to prove ill-gotten wealth.

Lim however insisted that the witness “will authenticate public documents submitted to her office vis-a-vis the SALNs.”
