Global Voices Summit 2015 opens in Cebu on January 24 #GV2015

FROM THE OPEN Internet, online civic movements, human rights in the digital age, digital surveillance, multilingualism online, to legal threats against bloggers and activists – all these will be discussed in Cebu City, Philippines, as bloggers, activists, ,social media experts and geeks from around the globe gather for the Global Voices Citizen Media Summit 2015. Participants from at least 70 countries from around the world are expected to gather at the Provincial Capitol in Cebu City, chosen by organizers for its strategic importance for citizen media. Among the speakers are PCIJ Executive Director Malou Mangahas and lawyer Nepomuceno Malaluan of the Right to Know Right Now! Coalition.

The Global Voices Summits, according to the event website, have brought together since 2006 the “most innovative and inspiring digital activist and citizen media communities from around the world. Past Summits in London, New Delhi, Budapest, Santiago de Chile and Nairobi have strengthened community ties, sparked new friendships, and served as a rich breeding ground for new ideas and collaborations across borders.”
