prayer-gathering.jpgOUT of tonight’s inter-faith prayer gathering called by the De La Salle Brothers at the school’s Greenhills campus, a broad coalition of mass movements, political parties, civil society organizations and religious groups invariably clamoring for Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s resignation, impeachment and ouster has been formalized, all uniting under the banner of truth.

Calling themselves Bukluran para sa Katotohanan (Coalition for the Truth), a name unanimously adopted from the theme of the event, the new movement significantly unites disparate groups that have not come together until this evening, as well as brings the so-called "middle forces" (students, professionals, the business sector) into the fold of the Arroyo resign-impeach-ouster (RIO) campaign.

"Our unity is anchored on principles and our aspirations for change, a change that is in turn anchored on the clamor for the truth," said Rep. Etta Rosales of the Akbayan party list.

The occasion marked the first public appearance together of former Pres. Corazon Aquino and Susan Roces, widow of Fernando Poe Jr., the opposition’s presidential candidate in the 2004 elections.

Addressing the crowd who came to listen to the Catholic mass and the Christian and Muslim (Duwa’a) service, Mrs. Aquino, now 72, vowed to give whatever she can to the campaign for the truth.

"Pasensya na po kayo dito sa matanda niyong kababayan. Akala ko ay maaari na akong magpahinga. Pero siguro ganyan talaga ang buhay. At ako naman, habang kaya ko pa ay iaalay ko ang lahat nang aking makakaya para sa inyo," she said.

For the first time, too, the key personalities in the RIO campaign have come out in public together. Aside from the country’s two most famous widows, also in attendance were 26 of the pro-impeachment congressmen who received the loudest and longest applause of the evening; Bro. Eddie Villanueva of Bangon Pilipinas; three of the resigned Cabinet members who came to be known as the "Hyatt 10"; former senators Wigberto "Bobby" Tañada and Leticia Ramos-Shahani; Reporma’s Renato de Villa and Frank Chavez; Mayors Jejomar Binay and JV Ejercito of the United Opposition; and leaders of recently launched mass formations like the Laban ng Masa, Black and White Movement, White Ribbon Movement, Unity for Truth and Justice, and the Gloria Step Down Movement.

Satur Ocampo, Bayan Muna party-list representative, however, said that the coalition’s message is still muted.

"Tonight, prayer is the main expression. What remains to be seen is the unified call for protest actions in a more dramatic way," said Ocampo, though he disclosed that the different groups are now in talks.

But do expect the coalition’s initial show of force next week in anticipation of Monday’s plenary vote on the House justice committee’s decision to throw out all the impeachment complaints against Arroyo last Friday.

"And if they will kill the impeachment," Rosales said, "we hope it will be the signal for the people to come out and join us in waving the banner of truth."

Following are excerpts of Mrs. Aquino’s brief remarks:

Unang-una, nais kong magpasalamat kay Bro. Armin (Luistro) for organizing this event.

Salamat din kay Bishop (Antonio) Tobias for the mass and all the priests.

Noong 1975, nag-hunger strike si Ninoy for 40 days.

But God does work in mysterious ways. And in 1980, Ninoy suffered a heart attack. And it was that heart attack which gave us the passport to freedom.

Nag-walk out. At inisip natin, ano ba ito? Wala na tayong pag-asa?

But because of that walkout, I think, Bro. Armin, you were  inspired to call all of us together to pray. So let us continue to pray for each other, to support each other. I am sure that if more and more of us pray and ask the Lord to bring us closer to the truth, He will do that and he will grant us not only 79, but more than 79, although  we will be happy with 79.

Maraming salamat.

I attended the inter-faith prayer gathering tonight because I couldn’t sit inside my room and watch what is happeing to our country. That if I wanted change then I must participate in activities like this and not just complain by mere words. sa simpleng salita reklamo kayo ng reklamo wala naman kayo ginagawa. To the youth or the younger generation, sana maging active kayo and aware kung ano ang nangyayari sa atin bansa, although may mga nakita akong kabataan doon iilan ilan lang sila, sana kung magkakaroon pa ng next gathering mas marami na kabataan ang dumating. Let us all pray for our country and our people.

Pati ba naman dasal at relihiyon sinabak pa sa kalokohang pulkitikal?!

Pinoy nga naman talaga…

Last I recall, the Philippines has one of the highest church attendances in Asia. And yet we are also amongst the most miserable countries in the region.

Are Pinoys a SPIRITUAL or a RELIGIOUS people? There’s a big difference between the two that most Pinoys cannot grasp.

For more insight on this, check out the following article:

http://www.geocities.com/benign0/agr-disagr/13-3-spirit.html

Excerpt:

“We should be reminded that the whole foundation of our religious beliefs whether we are Christian or Muslim is based on texts and teachings of human spiritual leaders and teachers. We as a people still have a long way to go in the direction of re-focusing on the spiritual aspect of our faith rather than its canonical, catechetical, or, at worst, political aspects.” 😀

its nice to see cory and susan together in one big event held last night. sana ito na ang simula ng pagkakaisa para sa isang layunin ng buong sambayanan para sa katotohanan. nakikiisa po kami sa inyong lahat. ako bilang isa ay tinatawagan ko po sa kanilang phone or nagpapadala ng email sa mga congressmen na pumirma na para sa lunes ay maipasa na senado. I was also there last night. I strongly felt it was time to make a statement that we want to know the truth. Set aside all political persuasions and come together for justice and truth.

By the way, in Pres. Aquino’s statement, the name of former Senator Soc Rodrigo’s daughter is Ditas Rodrigo Sevilla and not Rita.

Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

Hi Benigno — you’ve just belittled the divine origin of 2 of the most influential religions in the world, and you think that praying in public has a negative effect on politics. I think it is dishonest for you to take a position about Filipino Catholic/Muslim spirituality vs. religion when you don’t have much Catholic/Muslim faith. It’s better if you just took a position against the whole Filipino Catholic/Muslim faith, at least that would have been intellectually honest.

By the way, it would be interesting to know and hear from the congressmen who signed the impeachment complaint with the least to gain, and the most to lose. I am talking about those majority congressmen who risked their relationship with their party, who don’t hog the limelight to further their future senatorial careers, and who don’t have much of anywhere to go politically should the impeachment fail. They’re the ones who I admire the most in this affair.

Kung sakali man nandoon nga. Ganyan lang yan cycle of Political Circus. Lloyd Bentsen kay Vice President Dan Quaile,”You are no Jack Kennedy”. Bishop Tobias, “Sorry, you are no Cardinal Sin.”

Hahaha, Eyes, thanks for the info.

Asher, you’ve just about knocked every supporting institution and major player in the pro-impeachment side. What’s your alternative?

In my personal opinion, it’s those with the most to lose — those congressmen who haven’t been hogging the cameras, who belong to the administration, and yet who officially endorsed amended impeachment. I also admire the Church laity who’ve been praying for the good of the country.

asher,
how dare you tell these bloggers the truth man! truly, the show of unity by those opposed to gloria has weak foundations. the only thing that is uniting them is their desire to unseat gloria. But they differ on other core issues especially in response to the question “after gloria, what’s next?” Cory and the hyatt 10 have noli in mind. but on the same day that this mass was held, the reds are marching and a big banner reading “oust gloria/noli” was shown. i bet ya, the marcos/erap bloc have more deepseated hatred towards cory and her black & white forces than they have over gloria. remember cory and her forces are the prime movers of their humiliation in the past two edsas. that’s why this team-up is sooooo fragile with both sides too uneasy to make besobeso. until now, people are still at a loss for the real significance of edsa. No folks, it is not Cory, nor Cardinal Sin, nor any of the other personalities that can move a mass of people to destroy evil. It is that Invisible Hand and these personalities are just instruments. Right now i dont feel that magic, the “it” that can move our hearts.

How true…how true. hehehehe.

Let me post Magno’s articles for today. Dagdag pang-gising sa mga pro-impeachment.

In the end, it was their own arrogance that did the opposition in.

That, and a quaint anti-democratic assumption underpinning their whole impeachment misadventure: that our institutions are so weak that they may be bamboozled any day by noisy minorities.

If they threaten to walk out of proceedings whose very rules they chose or try and intimidate everybody else by saying that there would be riots in the streets the moment they do not get their way on any matter under collegial consideration, the opposition thought they could win the day. There is a seeping fascist attitude underpinning a suffocating self-righteousness that characterized their every utterance. They had the equivalent of Hitler’s brown shirted militants literally standing outside the gates of the Batasan, waving their red flags, chanting obscenities and behaving like bullies.

There is bigotry, too.

The demagogues of the opposition claimed a monopoly of truth and “conscience.” They smeared those who were not on their side of the argument, labeling them paid hacks, cover-up artists and, generally, men without conscience.

By insulting those they should be trying to win over by the force of argument and evidence, they lost their numbers. They lost the day.

This is simply not the way parliamentary battles are conducted.

It pained me to listen to my friend Rep. Edmund Reyes deliver that solemn but ultimately silly soliloquy at the start of the last, conclusive session of the House Justice Committee.

The whole soliloquy was pure demagoguery. Reyes claimed for his side exclusive possession of some “truth” in danger of being snowed under if they do not get their way. What that “truth” is was never made clear. At any rate, if it is a “truth” with nay value, then it might be unveiled in any other venue of their choice outside the impeachment process.

He conveniently forgets that impeachment is, in the last analysis, not about determining a final “truth”. It is an act of state to remove from office an official deemed prejudicial to the national interest. That is, in the whole tradition of political philosophy, a judgment conducted on an entirely separate plane: the plane of statesmanship.

What finally ruins Reyes’ silly soliloquy is the fact that at its core is a cheap bluff. He claims to have a list of an additional 23 signatories to their version of the impeachment complaint. These signatories were willing to be unmasked only after the magic 79 has been reached. On this basis, Reyes makes one last desperate plea for 6 more signatures from the members of the House to bring forth some mysterious “truth” that he claims.

The collegial deliberations at the House on a matter as serious as impeaching a sitting president is not a game of poker where bluffers could manage to be rewarded. That cheap buff Reyes tried to pull demeans the honor of the process and denies the deliberations the quality of high statesmanship that is the basis of its validity.

Even if those 23 faceless signatories do exist, it is obvious they are all opportunists. They have neither the moral conviction nor the courage of statesmen that should make them deserve the privilege of altering the course of our political history.

If we allow the course of our political history to be defined by opportunists, that will be a final insult on our people.

It is only just that Reyes’ bluff flopped, that he walked awkwardly away from the rostrum that did not deserve the sort of speech he delivered without an additional signatory to his lost cause, cheered only by a handful of fanatical communists who managed to infiltrate the gallery to pull their usual infantile stunts.

I am disappointed that Edmund found common cause with fascist bullies who think their version of the “truth” will triumph if only they screamed hard enough into the ears of elected representatives of the people. They have no qualms about committing travesty upon the essential principles of representative government. They have no respect for reasoned and disciplined argument.

In the aftermath of the Justice Committee’s junking of the impeachment complaints, the Band of Brats continued whining and bluffing like a wild bunch from an incompetent kindergarten.

At the rate they complain about counter-maneuvers by the majority, it as if they want a world where everyone else lies supinely while they pull off their political concoctions, a chess game where only they have the right to move and the opponent only waits passively to be checkmated.

Someone should tell these children that this is not the way the world works. In the real world, regimes have the right to defend themselves as much as detractors have the right to attack what they perceive to be failings.

I hate this whole episode of contrived scandals and sloppy impeachment complaints.

This episode constrained me to disagree vehemently with good friends and old comrades who think we should have an uprising as often as we celebrate Christmas.

What they presented us so far is a faulty fabric of hearsay, rumor and innuendo woven together by self-serving political agendas and stained by much malice. With that fabric they wave self-righteous banners, courting a new round of chaos that will only make our institutions more brittle than they already are.

I sense that this whole unfortunate episode is driven by a certain hubris among those who saw through what we call “Edsa Dos” and led themselves to believe that revolution is like a picnic.

That hubris explains the overdose of arrogance and self-righteousness we have seen among those who think impeaching the President is the way to solve the problems that now confront the nation.

That hubris explains why men who otherwise of goodwill have recently found themselves aligned with the most scheming of our marginal politicians as well as with those groups that have made street protest a cottage industry of sorts.

what a useless post, we all know Alex Magno is pro-gloria since day one, as is the whole Philippine Star andThe Manila Standard. Antonio Abaya was once a columnist there, he disgareed with the editor about his not so-pro-gloria stance and now he is on his own.

This isn’t about the legality of the anti-wiretapping law, the highest possble crime has been committed, Lying, cheating and stealing the election. Why can’t we get over the fact as what they are saying that had gloria not cheated she would have won anyway? You get caught stealing a single vote, then it is clear violation of election laws. My goodness what a bunch.Talking to an election official is already a red flag.

Asher,

Mangha ako sa mga pasaring mo, tama ka you difinitely sound like Usher the music man, yours is to feed the doubting mind awake to the very realm why politicos sometime become the barage of noise trying every trick to look good on camera, appear to be the source of light at every tunnel’s end.

The compelling withdrawal of the Communists from the talks, or you might wanna call it ‘the peace process’, almost to say they too believe in the Garci tapes and hordes of other issues and hence, should call it quits meantime that the country is on to eject another president, to my mind, is chilling enough. Why would and International Accord be afflicted by cheats like Garci?

There must be something hidden in much of the Marxist retreat, is this something tactical?

For people unaware of unkempt killings of people claiming to be messiahs of truth, justifies murder for political ends, I can only fret in grips of real fear there is an agenda indeed hidden somewhere by the insurgents of the left.

I have absolutely no make of the future with the impeachment thing except more trouble for the country, perhaps to scuttle the peace process of people in the underground. I bet you the Muslims could follow the Marxist gaffe any day now, why? Ask the politicos, wouldn’t you be the hero on cam bashing on a president?

Looking good on camera along media hyping is a rare, once in a lifetime chance. It’s free PR, that otherwise could cost money big enough for somebody’s stolen wealth to taper.

Let the impeachment process remain in congress, just let it die there or prevail be the devil’s taunts delete a president from view, stay out of the streets people! There is no power to be had from people getting hurt in the process, only hungry politicos gets to be president!

Now there are so many groups surfacing against PGMA. But this people are the old faces still… wala na bang iba? wala na bang mga bagong mukha?
Last news i’ve heard ” Arroyo foes unite for new people power”… they said this movement could lead to a new people uprising if lawmakers would insist on suppressing the truth…(sure?). How many times you told that? from the first day of the garci tape yan na ang naririnig ko… Why the people don’t want to go to street? many factors… People don’t trust also the leaders of this movements… We need new faces not the old dirty faces… And besides malaki na ang pagkakaiba noon Edsa 1 & 2.. Today the technology is very fast developing… People are so busy nowadays. Look the internet cafe, always full, Youth are busy on internet. Look at the shopping malls, people are busy window shopping even they don’t have money.. bakit nga naman pagaaksayahin ng panahon ang mga politikong yan, kahit mapalitan man si PGMA mararamdaman ba ng karaniwan tao ang pagbabago. of course not.. same old story again.
I’m not in favor of PGMA, I don’t like her and i never voted her. I know also she is guilty of the garci tape, but i don’t like either the people behind this movement cause i believe most of these personality have hidden agenda and personal interest on the position in the gov’t. But not all maybe 90% only…
We need really change, how to do it? i don’t know… PGMA should leave the office now but who will replace her? i don’t know also? Anyone here knows who is perfect for the presidency? Can you suggest names…???
Can i ask you one more thing, If PGMA will be replace by somebody else will the philippines be great again, will the filipino people like me will listen and respect the president and their leaders ??? Again history will repeat itself… or People will repeat history again…

Jun2001 you absolutely make the point here. If somebody from the opposition wrote it, Masha may comment in the opposite way. There are some biases maybe but other point are good arguments. When Atty. Paguia said that the tape came from Sen. Tatad (who is an opposition) did we question the integrity or biases of the tape here? I don’t read any comments here questioning the biases of the tape bec. it came from Tatad. But when the source came from the administration side our judgement is already final, they are telling lies.

Cory Aquino is totally lost.

Cory has totally failed to understand what she did by getting herself seated right next to Susan Roces.

Cory forgets that GMA is the successor (and protege) of FVR, her handpicked and annointed successor for the 1992 elections. More importantly, Cory forgets that Susan Roces – by virtue of being FPJ’s widow and representative of his “cause” – is the heir to Erap’s legacy. Tracing Erap’s lineage, you’ll all realize that Erap was a Marcos man through and through. Active with KBL, he joined the anti-Cory group in the Grand Alliance for Democracy long ago. Erap’s election to the Presidency immediately threw out Andres Soriano III and got back old Marcos crony (and estranged Cory Cousin) Danding Cojuangco into San Miguel. It was a field day for the Marcos boys when Erap got in.

That Cory joined in with Susan Roces just proves how naive she really is. She doesn’t know that she’s not only confused with what her legacy is (Cory –> FVR —> GMA), she also can’t understand that it was her government that put in the very constitution (1987 Cory Constitution) that prescribes the processes involved in impeachment. When the minority can’t get enough votes, well, those are the rules – the minority can’t push its agenda! Simple. It was she (Cory) whose government prescribed the process that happened last Wednesday. Her involvement in this black and white movement was all about being unhappy with how the signature gathering campaign last Wednesday turned out.

Then you’ve got Noynoy – another anti-Gloria guy not too different in advocacies from his equally lost uncle Butz.

I can’t believe I got fooled by that guy. I can even still remember his old Campaign jingle:

“Butz, Butz, Butz… Butz Aquino… Kapatid ni Ninoy, Kapatid ng Bawat Pilipino… Butz, Butz, Butz… Butz Aquino…”

The guy turned out to be a snake! Today, the public figures in the Aquino family – Cory, Noynoy, Butz, and EVEN KRIS are all lost souls.

Cory is still far too naive and continues to be an extremist fanatic of Democracy, while Noynoy and Butz are confused politicians drawn to the wrong side, then you have Kris, the girl who hooks up with all the wrong guys and once announced to the world that she got an STD.

Weird family. Weird country.

I wonder if there is such an animal as a “moderate fanatic” or a “extremist fencesitter” to justify JR2’s negative oxymoron such as “extremist fanatic.”

I may be nitpicking but, you see, the Jose Rizal I know was very careful with his language because such prudence (and elegance!) reflected the nuances and complexities of his mind.

What kind of animal therefore uses negative oxymorons? Nope, not an ox but a MORON! : )

I think it’s important to read the opinions of others who are perceived to be on the “other side” so we can come to rational conclusions of our own.

It’s not important which side you are on, it’s important in times of confusion is how rational you are. The real truth will always elude us,and that’s the truth. Certainty and truth is not of this world.

What is sure and certain is that we can form our own, independent opinions if we can remain objectvie and listen to all sides. I

Hi MitaMS,

There is no argument that we should respect other’s opinion. But, for me, it is important that one should take side after doing some brain work or simple logical analysis.

There is a perceived confusion in this gloriagate issue, primarily, because both sides, even the middle-no side has something to say.

But if we all reduce things to its barren simplicity then confusion maybe avoided if not properly addressed.

For instance, Government, particularly its executive head, should be made accountable on why Garci was allowed to leave the country. Garci,as we all know, holds the answer, but why he need to run?
Flight, in our criminal law, is an evidence of guilt.

For so long as the Government, more particularly the gloria administration, hides and perverts the ultimate truth, then expect adverse opinions to come their way.

gloria wants to put the impeachment aside, ano tayo hilo? or worst, tanga?

70% of 2 million will be one million 400 thousand, enough to overun the entire PNP and a division of soldiers. In Hungary, in their previous revolution. it took only a few thousands angry people to shred and kill with their bare hands a tyrant ruling a city.

Today or within this week, patriots with balls in congress should resign en masse if gloria traitors succeeds in plenary to kill the impeachment after all congress is now shamelessly useless than payatas. Opposition members are no longer able to serve the interests of their onstituencies, They just become accidental parasites and opportunists hoping waiting for the crumbs malacanang will throw them.

Let hell break loose without bloodshed
In the garbage dump of a congress that
Has caused the nation immeasurable harm.

Let a few resigned congressmen and people of their districts rise in revolt against a force that has plundered and rape
the country.

Let the eight rays or more of the sun in our flag light and shine again as it did once to ward of tyranny.

It is now time for the few honorable members of congress to leave this arse hole and comeback another day, a congress that is dirty, damaged and condemned by the people for not only failing to do its duty but also for being a haven of rascals and scoundrels who inflict serious harm to the polity.

Then why don’t we focus our efforts on getting Garci? Wouldn’t it be more productive if we start calling for the government to present Garci…let’s get specific para may mangyari. If there’s something specific and something actionable we demand from this government – at hindi resgination dahil wa epek yon nung umpisa pa lang – and the government doesn’t do a thing, mas may impact yon kaysa sa press conference and kwentong cabinet. Hi there again MitaMS :

You are correct in saying we should concentrate in getting back Garci but, obviously, you and I know how gloria prevent us from doing it. I say gloria because she is chief executive and by that alone, the buck stops in her.

It can be recalled that even Congress, another branch of our Government, tried its best through a subpoena to get hold of our guy but again, in vain.

The call for gloria resignation, while may appear appalling to others, is a valid and legal mode. Resignation should be taken in the context of being political in nature as contra distinguished with Forced Resignation we commonly encounter in Labor Law.

While it may appear that, using your term “walang epek”, it gives Malacanang a shudder if not sleepless nights. Thus, a team or a group of spin-doctors is tasked to address the situation.

And, interestingly, there is always someone who is tasked to monitor the media. Heard about the Afable’s Communications Group that disbanded lately ? Oh, yes,how about the blog, you may ask?
I will just leave it to your imagination to figure-out.

In sum, it goes back to gloria, who got all the resources and the guts to even declare that she won’t be impeached.

Indio,

Anong nangyari? Nawala si Stonehill parehas ni Garci ngayon. Ibang klase ang politics. Unahan mo dapat bago ka maloko. Masama na kung masama si GMA at ang administrasyon na ito…pero patalsikin natin sa legal na paraan so the cloud of an illegitimate administration will no longer be an issue as was true in the case of Cory, Erap and this presidency.

Kung nag concentrate lahat sa impeachment where we ended up anyway, mas maganda ang resulta. Ngayon nagkakandarapa ang oposisyon sa 79 votes – minority lang yun and it’s still unrealized up to this late date. Now the opposition is cramming in Congress like they were still in college – hindi na tayo mga bata.

People power ulit? Sa akin, ayoko na. Teenager ako nung unang people power. It’s no longer relevant for the times. We have to work within the system of democracy we now have.

I want to give a working democracy a chance in our country. Bakit ba tayo nagmamadali?

To Jose RIzal II a.k.a. whynoypisfail:

Sabi mo – “Cory forgets that GMA is the successor (and protege) of FVR, her handpicked and annointed successor for the 1992 elections.”

Wrong again!

Cory’s officially endorsed candidate in 1992 was Fred Lim. With Danding and Imelda splitting among them the still formidable Marcos vote, and Miriam biting off from that same chunk from Metro Manilans and Visayans she had impressed with her glib and sophistication, the Cory camp believed any candidate they would field would be a shoo-in for the Palace by the Pasig. But as the LDP (which was then divided between the party president Monching Mitra and newcomer Fidel Ramos) cannot come up with a candidate acceptable to civil society, Rene DeVilla took it upon himself to represent them, as his wife was an active member.

Mitra won by a wide margin in the LDP convention but as he is perceived to be the personification of the term “trapo”, Cory had to junk him and choose between DeVilla and someone else more interesting (DeVilla was, is, and will always be boring but very un-trapo), she chose Fred Lim because of his successful exploits as NBI chief, later as DILG Secretary. Not to be left out, Ramos formed a new Party, Lakas ng Tao and the rest is history.

Tongue in Anew,

Well, it looks like you just fell flat on your face with your idiotic attempt to challenge my statement.

You tried to to correct me, when I was correct all along. Before you even try to correct someone, try to get your facts straight!

Cory Aquino, way back in 1992 even had a full page ad where the picture was her shaking Fidel Ramos’ hand and the caption said something like “Take Over, Eddie.”

She officially endorsed Fidel Ramos over Ramon Mitra – and many say it was because of his 1986 EDSA I support for her side and his continued loyalty all throughout Cory’s coup-riddled term.

How could you even get yourself confused between 1992 and 1998?? I can understand a bit of your confusion, though: Fred Lim and Fidel Ramos were both uniformed men and both remained loyal to Cory (and defended her) during the coups that Gringo Honasan and company kept staging.

Nothing changes the fact, though, Tongue in Anew… You wanted to put my arguments down by challenging them. The problem is, you didn’t get your facts straight, so you’ve totally lost your credibility.

Another thing you didn’t get right: Renato de Villa ran on his own when he failed to get Ramos’ endorsement as standard bearer. Instead, Ramos gave it to Joe de Venecia and took GMA – who was the senatorial topnotcher of 1992 – to become the Vice Presidential bet. And in the 1998 elections, GMA credibly won the VP post surpassing the number of votes that Erap won as president.

Where did you get your wrong information???

Sorry, Tongue in a New… You’re going to have to do a lot more reading, thinking, analyzing, and soulsearching before you can even come close to challenging me.

Such a poor student of history you are.

Oh, and I have never denied that I am whynoypisfail. I chose to change my name (and I announced the name change by saying “I won’t use whynoypisfail anymore…”) in another thread. So in line with my decision not to use that already discarded name, please refer to me solely as JosĂ© Rizal II, ok?

Ok clear natin mga candidates ng president and vice president in the past elections:

1992

Fidel Ramos — Partido ng Tao ( an instant party he created after he lost in the LDP convention from Ramon Mitra)
Ramon Mitra — LDP Candidate and presumably Cory’s candidate
Danding Cojuangco — NPC Candidate
Mirriam Defensor — ran also with her own party.

In that elections, officially Cory’s candidate is Monching Mitra but because Ramos betrayed the gentlemen’s agreement doon sa convention ng LDP and created his own Partidao ng Tao, in the end the resources of the government went to Ramos. Cory eventually supported Ramos.

In this election, during the counting, Mitra ws too early to admit defeat during the first week of the results of the elections. It was a fight between Ramos and Mirriam Defensor. A friend of mine who was a lawyer consultant of the Comelect told me later that it was at this time that the dagdag bawas was first tested. With Ramon Mitra not minding what were his votes in Mindanao, the dagdag bawas operatives hauled the votes of Mitra to Ramos, so Ramos won in Mindanao overtaking the votes of Mirriam in Metro Manila.

1998

Candidates for president:

Joseph Estrada for both Partido ng Masang Pilipino and NPC
Jose De Venecia for NUCD and PPC
Rene De Villa for Pwersa ng Masa
Fred Lim — forgot his party

In this elections, again what happened to Mitra and Ramos was repeated in a different fashion for Joe De Venecia and Renato De Villa, while Fred Lim is a third force with the support of Cory and the Church because both does not support either Joe De V and Erap Estrada.

It was in 1998 that Gloria Macapagal won as vice president.

Dagdag Bawas was not possible to help Joe De Venecia because Erap won by landslide. But the overwhelming votes of Gloria Macapagal may have been the handiwork of Garci who at that time is the contact person of Mike Arroyo in Mindanao.

The rest is history.
