FOLLOWING last Saturday’s arrest of Anakpawis Rep.Crispin Beltran, police authorities have filed a new case against him for the crime of inciting to sedition.

The charge sheet said Beltran made "seditious utterances" during the Edsa anniversary at the People Power Monument in Quezon City last Friday.

On February 25, Beltran was taken to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) office in Camp Crame where he was held for a 21-year-old "outstanding warrant of arrest" for allegedly committing the crime of inciting to rebellion.

The party-list group Anakpawis condemned the "abominable act of political repression" directed against Beltran.

"The CIDG, under the pretense of ‘inviting (Rep. Beltran) for questioning,’ has illegally arrested, detained, treacherously violated Congressman Beltran’s rights to immunity from arrest."

Anakpawis said the 1985 charge of inciting to rebellion has been nullified under the administration of Corazon Aquino and therefore no longer holds any legal basis.

Beltran is still being detained in Camp Crame where an inquest is being held.

Police said that during the February 24 rally, Beltran made statements such as "Ibagsak and rehimeng Arroyo!" and "Patalsikin sa Malacañang ang huwad na pangulo!" As a result, the police said, "the crowd turned unruly and violently threw stones at the Crowd Dispersal Unit deployed that led to dispersal operations."

But Anakpawis insists that "Ka Bel is being suppressed for his vocal pronouncements and legislative actions that articulate the toiling masses’ real miseries under the (Arroyo) regime."

Beltran made statements such as “Ibagsak and rehimeng Arroyo!” and “Patalsikin sa Malacañang ang huwad na pangulo!”

there’s nothing wrong with these statements from Beltran. totoo namang pekeng presidente si Arroyo eh.

my sentiments exactly johnmarzan. the regime is so desparate that it even uses an old case against ka beltran, a case that was thrown out after the EDSA 1 uprising. government critics better watch out – they might even use an old jaywalking citation in 1978 to put you behind bars.

Asus!. If Beltran really is not guilty then the more that he should face the court and to clear his name! The government has not declared him guilty. He was charged. And the court will the decide on his innocence,

Prof Randy David was arrested. But when nothing was foudn about his action, the miliatry let him go!

The government is doing it the right thing, charge the person they believe is reponsible for their destabilization . By doing that they assue teh public that they are in charge.

The opposition should also file the impeachment of Gloria at all cost and the public will also appreciate this. That way mabawasan namanng malki ang kaguluhan sa bansa and they they can just focus on rebuilding their lives.

Maybe it woud be good for these people here who believe that there is nothing seditious with what Beltran did, to volunteer as witness for Beltran. You guys should go to the court and let you opinions be heard in the court. Its more productive that way…..

yeah, rego, charge everyone.

remember that in this country you can’t counter-charge the govenrment back with harassment, even if you can prove that you’ve been harassed.

an open letter to Crispin Beltran:

1. ang hindi pagbebenta ng inyong prinsipyo, bilang lider manggagawa;
2. ang pagiging mahirap ninyo sa punto ng usaping bulsa o ekonomiya;

pag-nagkaroon po ako ng pagkakataon magturo, tama po bang ganito ang ituturo ko sa aking magiging pamilya? – para maiwasang arestuhin;

Why not Jester? for as long as they are not excuted, I have no problem with that…..The governemnt can charge anyone they like and the person being charge just have to prove their innocence in court. I woudl definitely prefer that over lawlessness that hurts the country’s economy push down more peopel to gutter of poverty.

just a quick note rego, you’ve missed the point by a mile. true, ka Bel was charged, but he was initally charged with subversion raps that was thrown out of the window after EDSA 1. realising this mistake, the government has now announced he will be charged with seditious statements during the last EDSA anniversary protest action. and to pick up from jr_lad bakit nga ba mga makaliwa ang chinarge, at mga lower ranking soldiers at ang mga liderato ng kaliwa na nasa europa ang chinarge? common threads? could they have the potentail to seriously usurp the usurper….

just wondering ..why not also charge Joc- Joc Bolante for the fertilizer scam, Garci for Cheating, Gen Esperon for helping Garci Cheat ,First gentleman for smuggling, and Mikey for jueteng…..

In reality the government is not really serious fighting poverty, corruption or “destabilizers”. There are just doing these to save GMA’s butt……
The question at the end of the day is did she cheat, lie and cover it up…who is the comelec official that she talked to…what did they talk about…No amount of EO464 and state Emergency will ever answer these questions….She must face the nation and answer all these questions… It is only then that we will have real peace in our country …..

Let us stop being apathetic.. we just cant close our eyes and move on….

Please do not misinterpret me.. I also sometimes do not like Beltran and company…but remember we are still a democracy we have inherent rights in our democracy such as freedom to assemble, freedom of speech..you cant just jail someone for just saying what he feels …..

the point is we have an unpopular president that seems to do the wrong things all the time. i read somewhere, i think the international herald tribune that what ate glue ria is doing s a sign of weakness. there, that says it all. she has all the luck for now, but u cant be lucky all the time.

with regards to ka crispin beltran, he was not given the due process, he wasnt even read the miranda doctrine or something to that effect, there was no preliminary investigation conducted. we must remember that he is a representative of the people, thus he should be accorded all the respect due his office, same goes with ka satur, ka teddy and liza masa.

To Ka Bel and the rest of the party list representatives being persecuted by this regime, continue with your legal parliamentary struggle. Huwag kayong mamundok.

Continue with your grassroots organizing and ensure that your cause shall continue even if you’re individually persecuted. Continue with your organizing work so that come next election, more and new party list representatives will get elected.

This regime and the rest of the GMA cabal is threatened by the true representatives of the basic masses. The doctrines and strategy of Gonzales/Intengan/PDSP which was adopted by this government is to push the legal left out of the parliamentary struggle.
