Senate to take up
access to info bill

Just the other week, the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism came out with a series of reports on the President’s assets and net worth.

The series capped an exhaustive and exhausting investigation that ran for more than three months and netted reams of documents. However, many of these official documents had to be sourced through unofficial channels because many government agencies and officials chose to ignore requests for documents and interviews.

This week, the Senate is expected to begin floor deliberations on a bill that will give the public greater access to information and documents, and sanction officials and agencies that refuse to respect the public’s right to know.
