Osmena: Apply the law to all

SENATOR-JUDGE Sergion Osmena III voted to convict Chief Justice Renato Corona, saying that if a simple court employee could be dismissed for failing to disclose ownership of a sari-sari store, Corona must also be subjected to the same penalty.

“These employees were dismissed for their failure to declare far less remarkable assets,” OSmena said. “Regardless of their excuses, there is all the more reason to apply the law when the assets amount to P180 million.”

“We should not penalize the poor man for stealing a bicycle, but rule that a rich man must steal a mercedes before he is subjected to a penalty,” Osmena said.
