Recto: We can accept
inaccuracies, but…

SENATOR-JUDGE Ralph Recto voted to convict Chief Justice Renato Corona, the 15th senator-judge to do so and edging the highest magistrate in the land closer to a conviction.

The Constitution only requires a vote of two thirds of the senate sitting as an impeachment court for an official to be found guilty. This translates to 16 guilty votes.

Recto acknowledged that there was no such thing as a perfect SALN. If the law was to be strictly implemented, Recto said no one would be left in government.

“So this boils down to the degree of the unintentional miscalculation,” Recto said. “Logic dictates we accept a slight inaccuracy.”

“In the case of the Chief Justice, the undeclared assets is so huge,” Recto said.
