PULSE Asia reports that 47 percent — nearly one in two Filipinos — believe President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is the most unacceptable person to lead the nation.

This sentiment was reflected across the country’s geographical areas and socio-economic classes except in the Visayas where majority consider former President Joseph Estrada as the most unacceptable leader, according to Pulse Asia’s nationwide survey of 1,200 respondents.

The survey was done on July 2-14 2005 at a time when there were simultaneous calls for the President’s resignation and congressional hearings on jueteng and the Garcillano tapes were being conducted.

Meanwhile, 26 percent of Filipinos think Vice President Noli de Castro is the best person to lead the Philippines. The survey shows his largest support comes from the Visayas and Mindanao and from classes D and E. Those from the Metro Manila and ABC classes, however, favor Sen. Panfilo Lacson’s leadership.

Guwapo, matipuno at mababa (as in mababa) ang boses.

fairness demands that we give noli de castro a chance (if he truly won as vice president which is another issue). the fact remains that arroyo has had her chance and failed miserably to: 1) unite the people, 2) lift the economy, 3) bring morality back to government, and 4) show a true commitment to fight for the interest of the filipino people. we had given erap a chance, he failed miserably too. i know we all know de castro’s colored past, but fair is fair (again subject to the disputable argument of whether he really won or not).

now that surveys are reflecting her unpopularity more and more, gma and malacaƱang have been saying this is not a popularity contest and surveys are mere opinions and not facts, blah blah blah. but just tonight, in gma’s interview with korinna, gma cited all the surveys related to the 2004 polls which predicted and confirmed her victory. she even named some specific surveys. ha ha ha – so i thought surveys were nothing???

My own survey, the worst leaders to lead the country: GMA, FVR, JDV, Chavit & their alipores. While the best leaders to lead the country: Prof. Randy David, Cong. Francis Escudero, Sen. Nene Pimentel, Oscar Orbos & Mike Enriquez. Ping Lacson is best for being the Secretary of National Defense.

Oscar Orbos would be a nice choice…except that he has already stayed away from our country’s kind of politics…dirty, rotten, and full of shit..

I agree with lee_p regarding Pimentel.

I like Lacson. I remember when Nani Perez and everyone in the GMA administration wanted to put him in jail. They threw everything at him except the bathroom sink.

If Lacson was truly corrupt and guilty of the charges hurled against him I think he would have been in jail by now. The power of the GMA machinery to destroy is awesome. Yet Lacson survived. He’s the MAN!

The $64 million question is, Did Noli de castro really win? I doubt. Being the running mate of the acting and cheating president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, it is impossible for De Castro to face the voting public with clean hands. I believe, Noli iis also one of the culprits and major beneficiary of that electoral fraud. De castro should also be impeached.

Besides, just the thought of a De Castro take over makes me cringe. He is nothing but a nonsense, incompetent, and a trying hard official valet (Mayordomo in Spanish) at MalacaƱanang at the beck and call of the cheating Madame Arroyo.

Enough of abusive, extortionist, abortionist, and cheater public officials like De Castro.

Grabe and “Messiahnic Complex” ng GMA administration. This is absolute BS.

I am presently abroad for graduate studies. I cannot help but grind my teeth in the midst of political quagmire that has beset our nation these days. While it is true that I have been one of the convenors of the Erap Resign Movement in Isabela in 2000, I am not keen at the thought of another people power. The Erap scandal was diferrent from the Gloria-gate scandal. All I can say is that it is Gloria to be blamed. She had it coming to herself (or to her family). Towards the end of 2004, Archbishop Cruz urged the President to make a firm stand against jueteng… but it only fell on her deaf ears. She never learned from the downfall of Erap. The opposition took the opportunity to snowball hatred against her when “witnesses” surfaced to link her husband, son and brother-in-law into the jueteng scam. Then they brought out the tapes which contains the conversation between the president and Garci. Majority of politicians have done that in last year’s election. In my province (Isabela), the powers-that-be did not only talk to comelec officials, they ordered them, on cue, to issue a TRO of proclamation of the winner in the gubernatorial race like what they did to Gov. Grace Padaca last year.

The same people who pointed accusing fingers to the president for having talked to Garci were reported to have talked to Garci too during the election period last year. I am not trying to say that the president’s act is not wrong just because many politicians did the same. What I am trying to convey is that nothing will happen to our country if we only change our leaders everytime we think that they have erred. We have to change the system!!! Speaking of change in leadership, do we have quality choices? Noli? Susan? Ping? Erap? (Jinggoy and other politicians were quoted in newspapers as advocating a transitional government to be headed by Erap. What happens if the transitional becomes permanent? What will happen to the plunder case?)

In the end it is the common pinoy that will suffer while politicians would just shrug it off and go abroad if the situation turns to worst or if revolution erupts. Such situation would not have much effect to politicians who can still buy the basic necessities even if the prices would have doubled because of the political tension. When there is a change in leadership, it would be easy for politicians to just say “I am supporting you” to the new leader if ever the president resigns and there will be status quo of the benefits they enjoy at the expense of the people. But the poor….God help us, our politicians are feeding us to the dogs!!!!!!! A lot of opportunists have joined the bandwagon… Resign GMA, OUST GMA they clamored but they all have hidden egoistic agenda in doing so!!! A change in leadership will not save us from this quagmire, a change in the system will.
