PPI honors outstanding newspapers

CEBU Daily News was named Best Edited paper in this year’s Annual Community Press Awards.

Handed out by the Philippine Press Institute (PPI), the Community Press Awards honors community newspapers that show oustanding work in editing, science and environmental reporting, business and economic reporting, photojournalism and editorial.

Cebu Daily News won all five honors in the daily category.

The Community Press Awards is now on its tenth year. This year, the finalists were selected from 87 member-newspapers of the Institute. The winners were announced during the Institute’s annual membership meeting in Manila on Monday.

Also given honors in the same event, in partnership with Unicef, were child-friendly newspapers and journalists.

The Philippine Daily Inquirer was named as the Child-Friendly Newspaper in the National Broadsheet category. Winning the same recognition were Mindanao Times (Community Daily) and Baguio Midland Courier (Community Weekly).

Cebu Daily News and the Philippine Daily Inquirer are affiliates.
